The department was established in 2017–2018. The academic program in the Department of Polymer and Petrochemical Engineering aims to prepare graduates with a Bachelor’s degree in the sciences of polymer and petrochemical engineering, qualified to delve deeply into the study of polymer and petrochemical engineering, equipped with scientific thinking methods, the ability to conduct academic research, seek scientific truth in the scientific field, perform research, analysis, design, manufacturing, and performance testing. This is achieved through building and psychologically preparing students to fulfill their roles as engineers who can be relied upon in the practical field, thus preparing engineers capable of competing with other engineers for job opportunities.

Additionally, the department aims to prepare students capable of competing for required seats in postgraduate studies or employment by enabling them to perform external tests and compete with their peers, whether the judging bodies are local, regional, or global. The department encourages students to be creative, think about specialized projects, keep pace with developments in this field, and develop creative thinking skills, enabling them to make scientifically relevant decisions in their specialization or succeed in facing and dealing with scientific and practical problems using scientific concepts.
