A Student from the College of Oil and Gas Engineering Publishes a Scientific Research in the International Journal Geoenergy Science and Engineering
===========================================================================
The student from the College of Oil and Gas Engineering, Department of Oil and Gas Engineering, Hussein Basil Abdul Khaleq, published a scientific research paper in the international journal Geoenergy Science and Engineering titled “Advanced Machine Learning for Missing Petrophysical Property Imputation Applied to Improve the Characterization of Carbonate Reservoirs”.
This journal, belonging to the Dutch publishing house - ELSEVIER, is highly prestigious and rigorous in the field of petroleum engineering and energy, accepting only a small percentage of submitted papers.
This published research is part of one of the graduation projects completed in the Department of Oil and Gas Engineering under the supervision of Dr. Engineer Wathiq Jassim Al-Muzaffar from Basra Oil Company, and the student Hussein Basil Abdul Khaleq, a fourth-year student, along with Engineer Khalil Ahmed Khalil, a graduate of the Department of Oil and Gas Engineering. This research deals with the application of seven advanced machine learning techniques - artificial intelligence - to estimate the missing petrophysical properties in carbonate reservoirs, with the method generalized to sandy reservoirs. Dr. Engineer Wathiq Al-Muzaffar indicated that the students demonstrated proficiency in preparing the research, programming, understanding machine learning algorithms and their applications in the field of oil and gas engineering, discussing results, professional writing, mastering the English language, and contributing to responding to the comments of the scientific reviewers of the aforementioned journal.
It is worth mentioning that the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) is one of the conferences distinguished by scientific rigor and robust organization, held annually in Houston, USA, attended by tens of thousands of researchers and industry experts from over 100 countries, presenting nearly 500 papers on the latest advancements in the oil and gas industry.
According to statistics, the attendance at the 2024 conference exceeded 30,000 oil and gas industry experts, with more than 1,300 companies participating in the accompanying exhibition and more than 450 scientific papers presented.
It should be noted that the research is currently available on the OnePetro website:
