The College of Oil and Gas Engineering was established in 2013-2014, with its two departments, Oil and Gas Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Oil Refining, in Basra Governorate, due to this generous governorate’s major oil revolution and its being a center for the southern governorates, which were recently characterized by massive oil extractions, which led to attracting students from these governorates. The curricula of these governorates were also chosen. The college is based on serving the purpose of its establishment, which is entirely directed to extractive engineering and transformational engineering.
This college aspires to prepare competent engineers in petroleum engineering (extractive engineering) and chemical engineering (transformational engineering) in order to bear the burdens of the difficult transitional period that our beloved country is going through and to prepare distinguished cadres with high quality of education and scientific research to advance national industries, especially the extractive and transformational oil industries, in order to serve the community. According to the latest contemporary technical developments, so that they can raise the level of the national product with efficiency, high quality, and low costs, in order to compete with what is currently imported from abroad. A third department was created during the academic year 2017-2018 (Department of Polymers and Petrochemical Industries)
The College of Oil and Gas Engineering aims to enable students to access and learn about the latest contemporary technologies for extraction and conversion operations into various products based on petroleum derivatives via the Internet and field experience, in addition to exercising agreements with international universities for training for specific periods. It seeks direct guidance for engineering projects in the advanced stages that serve the oil fields, both extractive and transformational, and attempts to involve a discussion member from the industry on which the project was built.
The college works to develop students’ abilities in the scientific, artistic, sports, and creative fields and instill confidence between the student and the professor by activating educational guidance activities and holding continuous meetings with students in this regard, in addition to making frequent visits to students living in the internal departments to find out their problems.
